Archduke of Austria
The unnamed Archduke was a son of Archduke Franz Karl and Archduchess Sophie Friederike of Bavaria.
He was stillborn on 24 October 1840 and was buried the following day at 7 o'clock in the evening.
The coffin was transported from the Bellaria to the Capuchin Church in a two-horse carriage and taken to the crypt by the convent.
The sarcophagus
The simple copper coffin stands on four feet, is smoothly riveted and has a simple cross and inscription plaque.
The inscription reads:
HAEC THECA CONDIT FILIUM FRANCISCI. CAROLI. IOS. ARCHIDUCIS. AUSTRIAE ET SOPHIAE. FRID. DOROTH. ARCHIDUCIS. AUSTRIAE. ANTE. IPSUM. LUCIS. EXORDIUM EXTINCTUM D. XXIV. OCTOBRIS MDCCCXXXX
This coffin contains a son of Archduke Charles of Austria and Archduchess Sophie Friederike Dorothea of Austria. Extinguished before sunrise, 24 October 1840.
