Archduke of Austria
Rainer Karl was the fourth son of Archduke Leopold Salvator and Blanka of Bourbon-Castile. He was born in Zagreb.
During World War I, he served as a first lieutenant on the Italian front. After the proclamation of the First Republic of Austria, he renounced his claim to the throne in order to be allowed to remain in Vienna. He died in the Wiedner Hospital as a result of blood poisoning. He never married.
The sarcophagus was crafted in the Beschorner style.
The inscription reads:
ARCHIDUX RAINERIUS CAROLUS A. A. LEOPOLDI SALVATORIS ET BLANCAE FILIUS NATUS DIE XXI NOVEMBRIS MDCCCXCV OBIIT VINDOBONAE DIE XXV MAII MCMXXX E. S. E.
Here lies Archduke Rainer Karl, Archduke of Austria, son of Leopold Salvator and Blanka, born on November 21, 1895, died in Vienna on May 25, 1930.
